Objective
To pick a global brand that exists in atleast 4 countries and analyse its visual language. To create a visual system for the chosen brand, for a country that it does not exist in, by understanding the style of the chosen region.
Project Duration - 2 days
Theme
I worked on creating a visual concept for what the packaging for Cadbury Dairy Milk could look like if introduced in Japan. What kind of flavours and artwork could this package borrow from Japan?
Regions Researched : USA, UK, New Zealand, India
-
Cadbury Dairy Milk is virtually non-existent in Japan.
It is possible to get hand on a bar if purchased online. However these few bars are also typically imported from Australia or New Zealand and are not available throughout the year.
The chocolate isn’t readily available.
This led me towards modifying Cadbury flavours according to what is popular In Japan.
-
Studied the images on dairy milk packaging for various flavors across international borders.
Studied Japanese culture in depth, then determined which aspects could be included to produce a chocolate with a fresh flavor.
Cherry blossoms, mochi, sushi, sashimi, matcha, ramen, seaweed, and wasabi are some of the initial flavor suggestions.
I did some research for illustration references, font matching experiments, and several color schemes.
Designed packaging graphics in 2 variants for the 3 selected flavors (dual colour background & single Cadbury purple background).
Created mockups for the chocolate.
Possible Flavors
Matcha
Seaweed
Sakura (Cherry Blossom)
Challenges
Finding a country where Cadbury dairy milk isn’t present was one big challenge. It took me a while before I came across Japan and saw that the market for dairy milk there is non-existent.
Shortlisting flavours had me confused given the wide range of popular things in Japan.
